The purpose of the fourth InTSAC standard, Content Knowledge, is to ensure that teachers have a thorough understanding and implementation of both the content area which they are teaching as well as effective pedagogy. This standard is significant as the educator’s mastery of it will have a direct effect on his/her students’ quality of learning.
I demonstrate the Content Knowledge standard through my knowledge of the subject areas I teach. My PRAXIS II scores show my knowledge in each subject area I may teach as a licensed preK-6 educator.
My content knowledge is also evidenced by my passing score on the Virginia Communication and Literacy Assessment. I can support each of my student’s learning with my firm understanding of these subjects.
I also demonstrate the Content Knowledge standard through my pedagogical knowledge. My pedagogical knowledge is evidenced by my performance in my education courses as a Masters of Arts in Teaching (MATS) student at Hollins University.
For more information on this standard please read my paper on the Professional Knowledge Professional Practice Standard.
